However, labor force participation rates of women aged over 40 years have increased, resulting in parents opting for childcare services due to unavailability of care from relatives. Increases in unemployment could act to marginally decrease demand for this industry’s services.
Obtaining affordable, quality child day care, especially for children under age 5, is a major concern for many parents, particularly in recent years with the rise in families with two working parents. As the need for child day care has increased in the last decade, the child day care services industry began to fill the need of non-relative child care. Goods and services. Child day care needs are met in different ways. Care in a child’s home, care in an organized child care center, and care in a provider’s home—known as family child care—are all common arrangements for preschool-aged children.
Because more parents must work outside the home, there will always be a demand for child care. But with the concerns about quality child care, more people are moving away from the large day care schools, and turning to friends, neighbors, people they know from school functions and PTA meetings, and finding child care providers by word of mouth. This creates a huge opportunity for someone who loves children, and wants to create a business dedicated to taking care of them. Licensed child care includes child care that is required by law to be licensed. These include child day centers (except those exempted by law), family day homes and short-term child day centers (such as summer camps).
